RECAP:

I picked up this Beautiful camera for $30.00 us that's right a Medium Format Camera for $30.00. You can't even get a great old 35mm camera for that price. And from what I hear this camera is as good as a Hassy. The lens has some fungus, but it shouldn't effect the test roll.

Results:

I found out that durning my test I didn't have a light meter and the lens fungus did affect my shoots. But I found a really amazing store that helped me out, Koh's Cameras. I was able to trade in some cameras i didn't use and the old lens. And I got a very very clean lens and dark slide for under $30. So total cost for camera is...... $60.

Review: I love this classic camera, I hope it last. Being it uses Nikon Glass, and the only medium format to use Nikon Glass. Makes with camera rare to me.

Quick overview:

Miranda's last major design in all-mechanical cameras was indeed a tour de force. Introduced in 1971, this shutter-preferred automatic was a logical if complex solution to growing demand for additional sophistication in top amateur SLRs.

I picked up this little number for $50 the other day. It's not a bad buy, it came with a very nice camera bag, two flashes, and two additional lens other than main kit lens.

It was a bit random, I usually don't buy cameras at that price. But after taking a look at it I've found that this camera is a very well made camera. I found that all the lens where clean and the camera it's self was solid like a shit brick house. There are only two defects with the camera so far, I seemed that the camera was dropped and caused both problems. The view finders prism has a small spider crack in it ( but the prisms are removable) and the film door is broken, it will shut but if you hit or put and pressure on the hinge side of the camera the door opens. Good thing it came with a leather holder/case.

I picked this nice fully manual Camera from a guy, for $30. Had to replace the one battery for the light meter. The actual camera is much cleaner than this picture. Here are some test shoots from my first roll of film. 400 speed Kodak.

"Holy Attitude Batman!! I have never been to a more unmotivated, attitude giving Subway in all my life. The only saving grace was that the sandwich wasn't all that bad - but the chip on the shoulders was priceless from those behind the counter. When I gave my order and chose the bread you would have thought I just stepped on the ladies cat and then kicked it after I decided to switch from Italian to Whole Grain...Next time I'll get my hero at the local deli."

Muse - New Music - More Music Videos

This was the best thing that happened to me in awhile. I might of had to stand in line for 3 hours but, we got to see a full show and be on LIVE TV!!!! MUSE fucking rocked the Venue. It was great. Also this was the first time MUSE has ever done a American show.

Old Cameras New Pics

After a fun time is the city and taking photos with my Yashica. I found myself really enjoying the pictures that are being taken. Also no to miss the fact that the Yashica is so retro looking too :).

I was able to get my hands on Aperture 2, which means that all older pictures shoot in jpg format can now be edited as if they were RAW. Which brings me to these new pictures.

These two pictures are about a year old, take with a Canon AE-1 with FujiFilm 400 speed (same roll)

Shoot with 400 speed B&W 120 film.

Now I find myself at a crossroads, the camera is really fun to play with but unless I have very steady hands or go thur about 2 more test rolls of film I might not use this camera all the time. The biggest downer is the cost of development, plus the cost of putting the film to digital, plus the cost of the service work. All in all I spent $15 to get these three shots on digital from development :( I'm a poor artist $15 is gold to me. Also the store I'm using is becoming a pain in the ass, they tell you it's going to be $1.49/per 120 neg. to scan (no biggie)... but they don't tell you it's $5 to do the work... WTF. I even gave them my flash drive, seeing it might save money and not get charged for the CD.... bS .grrr... disappointed. Also the pictures were backwards, scanned as color not as B&W and I just spent the last hour editing them to even look this good. Blah too much shit for a simple task.

I know not to let life's little trials hold you back, but WTF. I'm going to have to find a better source to do Medium Format or get prints made and than scan them. Thank God I have a degree in Graphic Arts, and have a good eye for editing pictures.

August Summer Nights

Since June, I've been working hard. Working hard to achieve my goal to become a F.I.T. student. June and July were long months for me working on my grades and taking 3 classes over the summer. Blah, atleast I got two A's and a B+ :) . As for my photography, I've been lax and putting most of my time to work and school.

But there is light at the end of my tunnel! After my birthday pasted I acquired two new cameras to work with. One is a Yashica electro 35 GSN--Depicted here :

And the other is a Holga 120N Medium Format Camera- Depicted Below:

After a few days I will have my test pictures up.

I find that both cameras are unique in their own ways, the Yashica camera is considered a Rangefinder(this is were you use a viewfinder to look at what you are taking and not the actual lens, unlike the SLRs) I got this lovely camera for helping out a fellow artist and photographing her art work, so that they may become digital. I found that it was quiet hard to take photos of paintings that were behind glass but as you'll see below I seemed to have no problem.

This is Gina's work. It was a pleasure helping her out and I look forward to future business!

After completing my task I deiced to ask Gina if she had any old camera lying around and low and behold she pulls out the Yashica. I found a proper battery for it on RadioShack.com. And hopefully tomorrow the pictures come out great.

As for the Holga 120n I got this little badboy from Kara for my b-day plus film. I've never shot in Medium format or have ever handled the film so, I was nervous about how to load, how to unload, how to handle the film. BUT.. It's a great experience. The only down fall is the film is a bit costly to get put on to cd.... I might get prints and just start scanning them into the computer instead. lol.

Alittle background about the Hogla... Cheap Plastic lens, cheap everything about it. But it's a camera that most professionals use. It has hundreds of different ways to be used and I hope to try all of them lol. Test Pictures will be posted later.

I applied for F.I.T. this past Feb. I am as always very nervous about my photo taking skills. I got an email from FIT about a Send In Portfolio. First thing i thought was "This isn't for me, lol this is a Mail in Thingy. I know I have to go in and have an interview." Well sooner or later I found myself eating my words. And I had to Mail In my Portfolio. Now this doesn't sound as it should. But it is, On the Mail in Portfolio it is required to send in The Home test Pictures, Answer 6 or more Short Answer Questions, and Write two essays : One being about two people or artists that inspired you to become an artist and changed you as a human being. And Two being A Compare and Contrast or one of the 4 example pages they gave you.
